The Georgetown County Library System will begin Phase II of their 7-phase re-opening strategy today, June 1. The word on the Waccamaw Library from director Tamara McIntyre is: Curbside book delivery plus limited access to circulation desks! - Patrons will be able to enter the front area of the Library (limited numbers).
- Patrons can receive Circulation Desk assistance, Librarians will look for books for them, and faxing and copying services are available.
- Patrons must wear a mask if they enter the building. The Library has a limited number to give out at the beginning of the reopening.
- Curbside book delivery still available.

- Free WiFi in the Library parking lot, 24/7: Password wifi123!
- 60-day temporary cards so folks who don't already have a library card can use e-book services.

- June 15 the discounted rate will go up to $72.30 (These passes currently cost $99 at the park.)
Also, Waccamaw Library is offering access to its archive of videotaped programs on the Georgetown County Library YouTube channel. These videos will be posted on Tuesdays at 10 AM under "In Case You Missed It" on the Georgetown County Library Facebook page and also on the FOWL Facebook page. This is a good opportunity to view adult programs and series that you might have missed (or want to see again) from the comfort of your home. Please "like" or comment to increase activity on the Facebook page! Check out Discus - South Carolina's Virtual Library is the "information place" for all South Carolinians. Discus provides free access to an incredible electronic library 24/7. It provides a large collection of resources from books, magazines and videos. Resources include tutor com, novelist plus, consumer health, career transitions, opposing viewpoints and many more! Please Complete the 2020 Census to Help Our Community The mission of the Friends of the Waccamaw Library is to support the library. FOWL urges you to complete the 2020 Census to help us in our mission. Federal and state funding relies on census data to allocate resources for libraries, school meal programs , Medicare and Medicaid, public transportation, education, recreation, and so many other important programs that are critical to our quality of life. If SC citizens don't complete the 2020 Census, it will appear that our population has decreased, so funding to these vital programs will be decreased! We could lose our 7th seat in Congress (gained after the 2010 census revealed sufficient growth to add a seat). Right now, South Carolina is ranked 38th in the nation for Census Self-Response rates. That's not good! Worse still is learning that Georgetown County is ranked 39th out of the 46 counties in our state for response rate. We can do better! Send this plea to all of your social network and take the 10 minutes to access and complete the 2020 Census online: www.2020census.gov.
We would like to draw your attention to the newly stocked shelves of "Bargain Books to Benefit FOWL" at the Litchfield Exchange (14363 Ocean Highway behind Applewood House of Pancakes). By now your book supply should be running low! Browse through organized hardcovers ($1) and paperbacks (50 cents) and find recent releases and older treasures you always meant to read. Your donations can be placed in the envelopes provided and slipped under the door of Art Works (if no one is on duty).

Through Sept. 12 - Brookgreen Gardens presents Bruce Munro's Southern Light exhibit. The internationally known artist brings his spectacular large-scale light sculptures to the gardens, allowing visitors to literally see the gardens in a new light. The exhibit features seven works of art in light and mixed media, each designed specifically for the natural garden rooms where they will be installed. The illuminated installations will consist of tens of thousands of components. Cultural events on the Grand Strand - Check out this updated nonprofit website: www.TheArtsGrandStrand.org, created and maintained by Murrells Inlet resident John Morken, is a complete calendar and guide to the fine arts from Calabash to Conway to Georgetown. There are more than 700 events and 50 interviews per year. The calendar displays as a month, week, day or agenda. Each event is categorized (e.g., music, art), and you can choose to view any or all of the categories by clicking on them in the dropboxes at the top of the calendar. For health reasons, John is seeking a dedicated person or group to take the reins of this valuable website and continue to provide timely information about the quality cultural offerings along the Grand Strand.
